Lisa if you make a private post with your guestbook address and set your admin password to the default I will have a look

Hi there thanks very much for helping...yes both files are in thisismydomain.com/guestbook/ and I've named the page guestbook.html I can see the guestbook page and submit a post but it just doesn't show on the wall?

Posted by AndreaJune 11, 2011 - 01:22 pm
Lisa check that in admin, configuration, the first field "guestbook page name" corresponds to the name of your guestbook file. For instance, for this very guestbook, this field is "free_php_guestbook_test.html". Also, be sure your guestbook page is in the same folder as php_guestbook.php.

Posted by AndreaJune 11, 2011 - 12:41 pm

Dave the sample guestbook is, well, a simple sample (sorry about that) html page that is included in the zip file that you can freely download from the guestbook home page

I know I am jumping the gun a bit but I JUST heard about this software and am in the process of installing it on my website. Being the impatient type that I am I noted the documentation mentions a sample guestbook but I have been unable to find it on the site. I would love to see a fully configured sample site that I can start out with and modify as I need. Later once I get comfortable with the software I can do a complete re-design.

Does anyone know if there is a complete "sample" guestbook setup as mentioned in the docs that I can use as a starting point. Thank you for ANY help.

Steve I answered on the captcha, did you check the things I pointed out to you? The suspicious activity thing has to do with the javascript on the guestbook page. Did you try using the provided template "as it is"? It is quite easy, on building a new page, to screw up the javascript.

Andrea's Reply:
Steve the permission is not modified within the script, it is usually assigned by using your ftp client, the one you use to upload your files. The captcha not showing could be a permission problem with the main folder. Also check you have the GD image library enabled in your PHP installation (you could check this with your host).
Steve's Reply:
Thank you for this reply, but I still have issues, I will check about the GD image library with my host.
PS: You must have the patience of a saint! Thanks to you from all of us!!

I have a problem which it seems loads of others do, it's that I don't have a captcha, when tring to post I get a message 'Form processing halted for suspicious activity' and I don't get a message in my e-mail account. I've set my permissions on the html pages to 666 like Andrea suggests. I'd like to trim some of the dis-allowed words/strings, I alter them and save but it keeps going back to how it was.
Like most I'd *love* to see a FAQ I see it was going to be done in September last year. I'd really appreciate a bit of help here. Steve

I'm still trying to get a Captcha image on my Guestbook, haven't found the places where I have to alter 777 permissions and when I try to make a test post, it says I have triggered off some suspicious activity! I'll keep banging at it, but help if you can, I'd appreciate it.

Posted by SteveMay 30, 2011 - 03:03 pmstevestuartdj@hotmail.co.uk
I can't find where to alter the posts to 777 etc. Gordon Bennet I've looked all over and it's really bugging me now!
Also, if that weren't enough - my capcha isn't working, there's just a red cross instead.
I'll keep going on this 'cos I hate to give up, but I'd sure appreciate a helping hand if there is one? Steve

Thanks Steve mind that the new antispam feature is not present in the last wcs version, will be added in a future release. Cheers Andrea

Testing to checkout the new antispam features...

I've been very happy with the older WCS version, BTW.

hi andrea! found the solution to my post below (Posted by rom April 24, 2011 - 03:49 am). i outputted the guestbook contents to a text file then called it from my php guestbook file. it's working perfectly now, check it out at http://design.byromedia.com

you might even want to add it to your installs list. thanks so much, keep doin a great job!

hi andrea! first of all awesome job! i have a problem though, i recently changed my guestbook file to php from plain html coz i needed some scripting in it. but i can't set its permission to 664 coz am just using a free host and they wouldn't let me. now my guestbook file can't be written to by your script :/

any workaround to this? please. thanks so much

Hi,
I have got your guestbook up and running but when I try deleting an entry it keeps saying this: Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/barlingpouuk/public_html/include/classes.php on line 378

Please advise?
Regards,
Jo
