Tony the free version does not have moderation. Make sure that the guestbook file name is correct in configuration and that the guestbook page has a 666 permission. The free version is totally working.

Hi, I installed the guestbook (free version) for a client, but none of the messages display, they just sit awaiting moderation. How can I set the book up so that it publishes all comments, leaving it to the client to delete if necessary afterwards? I cannot find anything in admin that allows the moderation to be turned on or off. Is this guestbook totaly non-functioning unless you pay for it?

Love this guestbook.

Somehow, posts made from Internet Explorer in my clients guestbook generates an error message from the guestbook php file. All other browsers work fine. This is driving me slightly mad. Anyone else with the same problem?

Also, if moderation mode is turned on, you have to approve the messages before they are shown on the page. Just made a test post on your page, and it looks fine, indeed an "old" post appeared, so I think you recently made a new upload of the guestbook page and this indeed "erased" the post.

If when you make a post, all the others posts re-appear yes. Is this what is happening to you, did I get it right?

Posted by toluOctober 28, 2011 - 01:06 pm
so are u now saying that it's because of re-uploading the page that's y d content are not appearing?

Posted by AndreaOctober 28, 2011 - 12:06 pm
Tolu, this is a recurrent "issue": if you edit your guestbook page and then re-upload it (with no messages of course), this is now your new guestbook page: without messages. Then you make a post and the page is repopulated with all the messages from the posts database. When you will "leave the page alone" (no reuploading of an "empty" one), your messages will stay . Hope this solves all the problems, I am here to help anyway.
Cheers - A.

Tolu, I have to apologise. I was looking at the source code of my own guestbook instead of looking at the one in the distributed 0.71 version (this is what what you are using I would guess).
You can keep the original guestbook page as it is (as it was before you edited it, take again the original file from the zip), and look in javascript/gb_javascript.js, this is the file you have to edit.
The link you want to change is highlighted in the screenshot below.

A write permission is absolutely required for the guestbook page to be writable. Try 755 or 777 instead of 666.
Let me know.

Tolu, let me know what you would like to put in the textarea on pressing the image butto and I will show you how to edit the file.
instead of http://www.cellbiol.com/images/bioweb_color.jpg, what do you want to appear?
Concerning the posts that do not show: please cheack that you did edit the configuration to reflect your guestbook page file: did you change guestbook.html to guestbook2.html in configuration? Also, does guestbook2.html has a 666 permission? You have to do both these things to have posting work.
Let me know. Regards - Andrea

Tulu this is a snapshot of the source code of the guestbook.html page. I did put a red mark where you have to edit the file. Edit the file (the text source code), save, upload. This is all there is to it :)

thanks, am using dreamweaver cs5, may be u dont understand what am saying, you know when you click on the image icon beside smile, d dog face, when you click on it, it will insert this image "The Bio-Web" , that's what i want to change, i hope you get me now? thanks

Posted by AndreaOctober 26, 2011 - 05:38 pm
Tolu, not sure I understand your question, so please accept my apologies if this answers sounds inappropiate: you have to use a text editor, such as Komodo edit for example, to open the html file and edit it according to your needs. Does this answer your question?

Posted by toluOctober 26, 2011 - 05:25 pm
thanks, i saw the image url, but for example this, how do i change it

Posted by AndreaOctober 26, 2011 - 04:42 pm
Tolo it is very easy: look for the text you mention in the source code of the html page and you will find it. It is around line 70, look for it in the page with a find. Then youst replace it with an image of yours.

Posted by toluOctober 26, 2011 - 02:33 pm
thank you. please how do i replace my own url with this http://www.cellbiol.com/images/bioweb_color.jpg

Tolu you will not get spam, because there is a javascript based protection that efficiently stops bots. I am not getting any spam here for example, except some (rare) messages posted manually. However those are easily blocked by banning specific words and/or IP addresses by using the options in the configuration section of the guestbook. I see captcha as an additional optional layer of security. Many people will feel insecure without captcha, so I am keeping this feature in the current releases. However, as you see here, I feel it is not needed, the ajax based protection is quite enough and provides a more pleasant and transparent posting experience for guestbook users. Feel free to have a go with the free version (no posts moderation on this version) to test the stuff.
Cheers - Andrea

thank you for your wuick reply, but if i disable the captcha wont i be getting spam?

Posted by AndreaOctober 26, 2011 - 11:00 am
Hi Tolu,

1) no, but good idea for the to-do list

Please mind that with the ajax verification, captcha can be safely disabled, as in this installation in this page

2) enhanced version has moderation mode, which means that posts are to be approved by admin before they go in the page.

Hope this answers your questions. Best - Admin

hi please i want to make the donation of $10.00 for the guesbook but before that i want o ask you 2 question

1) for the captcha if user get it wrong instead of being redirected to another page, can it just stay on that same page and just echo that it's wrong
2) can the admin approve the comment first before it's being posted?

thanks

Virtual assistance has taken the employment and contractors’ market by storm over recent years. Virtual assistance allows companies to reduce the overhead that comes with having excess staff and labour costs. By reducing the need for staff to be physically present at the jobsite, companies save money by reducing operating costs.Virtual Assistant Agency
