Hi. I have a problem deleting spam posts in a guestbook. When I via the admin try to delete the posts, I do get a message that the posts are deleted, but when I go back to the page, it's still there. And it still shows in the guestbook.

Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?

So my best advice is to add http and href to the list, as said earlier. You might want to backup config.php before you do that, because if you get the syntax wrong this will break the script. In case it happens you can restore the config file from backup and start over.

How do I turned on Ajax protection?

Posted by AndreaApril 22, 2013 - 04:38 pm
the captcha works but is not really effective. Ajax protection (in use here) is effective, do you have it turned on?

It just dawned on me to ask. What is the CAPTCHA not working?

Posted by AndreaApril 22, 2013 - 04:34 pm
Rayburn, in the configure section of the admin area online, there are 2 boxes in which you can add words or strings that, when found in a post, will block the post and delete it automatically. If you add http and href to this list, you will block 99% of all spam messages, which generally contain links. I can do it for you if you wish, contact me by e-mail.

Andrea, not sure what you mean my http and href.

"forbidden html elements:

Can not find any Help section about this.

Posted by AndreaApril 22, 2013 - 04:10 pm
Rayburn, you could ban http and href. Add them to your forbidden strings list in administration. Respect the syntax: "word1","word2","href","http",......
words between hyphens, separated by a comma.

Also you can use geoip to ban the countries from which the spam posts come.

I have a website with your guestbook and spammers have found it. I deleted over 500 posts last week and they are still posing hundreds of spam. Is there anything I can do short of taking the guestbook down?

Thank you,

Thanks so much for this guestbook package. I spent several hours trying to add "recaptcha" capability to my existing nms-guestbook and finally gave up because it was getting so complex to do. I installed your system easily, following your readme instructions and everything went as indicated. Thanks again for a wonderful solution to preventing spam (I hope!)

Rayburn, try for a moment to swap your guestbook page with the default guestbook page from the zip. (make sure you grant 666 permission to this page), then try to make a post. Does this work?

Posted by AndreaApril 17, 2013 - 04:22 pm
Bob it could be that your PHP sessions folder is not configured properly on your web host. You could try to include this line:

session_save_path("sessions");

toward the top of the php_guestbook.php script and create a folder called "sessions" in your main guestbook folder. This is an attempt to force a folder for PHP sessions different from the default one, that might be misconfigured on your host. Not guaranteed to work though.

Thanks for the help on setting the permissions.
Now when I configure the guestbook page and SAVE. I get the error message: Wrong Password or session expired. This keeps happening. Checked and re-checked my permissions. They are OK. I doubled checked my configuration settings. I keep getting the error message as mentioned above. Thanks.

Hello Bob, I am not familiar with dreamweaver. I found this:
http://www.365discoveries.com/2008/04/how-to-change-file-permissions-with-dreamweaver-chmod/
hope it helps. Otherwise you can use a different ftp program such as filezilla to chage the permissions. If you have a cpanel account, you can change persmissions through cpanel.

My server is UNIX based and I am using Dreamweaver. Question: How do I set permissions in the various files?
Thanks

Hello Frank, sent you an e-mail, it's easy to do.

I would like to have the email notifications of new posts to the guestbook go to two people. Where would be the best place and method of adding the second email address in the PHP code?

Posted by AndreaApril 10, 2013 - 04:50 pm
John, check out your guestbook page source code and delete the posts manually. Most likely they ended up OUTSIDE the comment start-comments end lines, this is why they are now "permanent"

There are four test posts when I first started the guestbook that I cannot delete. How can i get round this.

Posted by AndreaApril 10, 2013 - 01:38 am
Larry, you could try to just replace the configuration file with the original one from the zip and start over with configuration.
